Sliquid Satin – Sex Toy Review

If you can believe it, there was once a time when I didn’t realize there was anything more than Astroglide and K-Y Jelly, they were the only thing on the shelf at my small town drug store. I would slink in, shove a bottle of lube under a giant bag of M&M’s and pray I didn’t know anyone working the checkout counter. I didn’t realize I had options, that something else could possibly exist for personal lubricants.

And then I met Sliquid, my first foray into what I like to think of as serious lube. My first bottle of Sliquid was purchased pretty hastily, it was the first thing I grabbed off the display that was labeled water-based. I still wasn’t comfortable purchasing items of a sexual nature, but at least I didn’t have to hide it under a bag of candy. I honestly couldn’t even tell you which type of Sliquid I purchased, it’s all a haze to me.

But what I do remember is it burning my asshole. We had tried it out first anally and my butt was having none of it. I’m not entirely convinced it was the Sliquid’s fault, in fact the Sliquid brand is considered one of the safest and most natural lubes on the market, but nonetheless it did turn me off on the brand for awhile. Bummer.

Fast forward a bit, I’m in the same shop hunting for lube once again. A little more confident, I actually read through labels on all the bottles and I decided I was going to give Sliquid another go. This time I bought Sliquid Satin (I’d like to say it’s because I made an informed decisions based on the contents and my needs… but honestly, I liked the color of the bottle and the way the label felt under my fingers.), now that the bottle is just about empty, I thought it was time for a review.

Satin by Sliquid

Sliquid Satin is interesting because it is designed for use as a daily moisturizer, not just during sexual activity. This is great if you suffer from any sort of vaginal dryness, due to menopause, medication side effects, or if you are a person who suffers from just general dry skin.  I live in Northern Minnesota, where the winters can really suck the moisture right out of you, I am constantly dry from mid-October until late spring (which could be in April, May, Early June…), so I am all for anything that adds a little extra moisture to my skin. I can also see this particular lube being beneficial after a particularly long or rough sex session, when the friction of all that in-and-out movement causes some chafing and irritation. I get itchy when we play too rough and skin gets damaged, I found a little bit of relief with a few drops of Satin massaged into the skin.

That being said, I don’t find Sliquid Satin particularly long lasting during sex. It feels like my vagina slurps it all up in a matter of a few thrusts. Like, it absorbs so fast I feel like I could use it as a hand lotion in a pinch! Granted, as a water-based lube it wont last as long as a silicone lube would, but to me it still seem like it didn’t last as long as I would expect a lube to. My partner and designated stunt cock agrees with me, when he uses Satin for solo masturbation, he finds he has to reapply the lube several times in one session. But, he says it has never caused him any irritation and it smells better than spit.

It’s true, it does smell better than spit (although it kind of looks like spit, Satin is a clear lube.). In fact, it really doesn’t have much of a scent at all. If anything, it has a very, very, faint odor that I think is akin to kid’s bubble solution. It doesn’t smell chemically, weird, or overpowering in anyway, I like that about Sliquid Satin.

As a lube for anal sex, Sliquid Satin has not been a great fit for me. Like I said before, it feels like my skin just soaks this stuff up instantly, and this is just as true for my butt hole. It doesn’t take long before I can feel that uncomfortable friction against my anus and require more lube. So, if you are looking for a great anal lube, skip the Satin, Sliquid has better, thicker lubes for anal.

Okay, okay, but what does it feel like? Well, it’s slick, it’s soft, dare I even say it’s even satiny. It’s also drippy. It runs down whatever it’s put on pretty quickly, it’s not a sticky lube (like Bad Dragon’s Cum Lube). Like with stunt cock’s penis, it also caused me no irritation or discomfort. Overall, its a nice lube. I can’t rave about it, but it’s functional and made by a great company.

And, because I’m thorough (and it happened on accident), I can tell you that Sliquid Satin has no real taste either. Some lubes have a nasty perfume taste to them, makes your whole mouth feel sour and tingly, but not Satin, seriously, it’s virtually tasteless. And hey, It’s gluten free and vegan friendly, so it could practically be served on some Hipster menu paired with Kombucha and Kale chips!

Clean-up with Satin is a breeze! If by the time you have finished with your sexual activity of choice and the lube hasn’t already absorbed into your skin, just give it a hand and rub it in a bit more. Then give yourself a high-five, because you’ve just had great sex and you moisturized at the same time!

Now, some bonus facts about Sliquid Satin! It is both glycerin free and paraben free! Yay! Glycerin increases your chances at a yeast infection and parabens cause cancer. All of Sliquid’s lubes are going to be both glycerin and parabens, so you can grab any one of Sliquid’s lubes and know you are getting something with safe, natural, quality ingredients. It is also hypoallergenic and non-toxic, with an aloe & Carrageenan infused water based formula (great for silicone toys!).

If I were to have one real complaint about my Sliquid it would be the design of the bottle. I really wish it came with a pump, rather than a bottle I have to squeeze. Because it’s not super long lasting, we are constantly reaching for the bottle mid-sex/masturbation, which means the outside of the bottle is pretty sticky and questionable looking… gross, I know. I feel like having a pump would alleviate all that and keep the beautiful label looking clean and pristine (not that there is any real benefit to that…).

So, would I recommend this? Yes, but more for its moisturizing benefits and less as a play-time lube. Maybe I’m lazy, but I hate reapplying lube again and again. So, if you are looking for something to help ease any sort of dryness, definitely give Sliquid Satin a go. Or, if you are just looking to add a little boost to your already ample natural lubricant, go for it! I just wouldn’t recommend this if you really rely on lube to keep things going, unless you don’t mind reapplying as needed (which for me, seemed to be often.). Also, if you have any allergies/sensitivities to aloe, steer clear of Sliquid Satin and go with one of their other lubes instead!

Sliquid Satin comes in two sizes, 4.2 oz and 8.5 oz. Should you wish to purchase Sliquid Satin you can do so at SheVibe or Good Vibrations!
