I feel like the humble bullet vibrator is often many a persons first introduction into sex toys. After all, they are usually cheap and they are pretty discreet (which may be important if you are shyly buying your first sex toy…which I have totally been there, done that…) and fairly non-threatening looking. And since the bullet vibrator is often time a persons first toy it’s a cryin’ shame that there are so many super shitty bullet vibrators on the market! So many weak, buzzy, pieces of crap… heck, if I didn’t get lucky with my first bullet purchase I may have written off vibrators as not for me. So for this reason I am always excited when I find a good bullet to recommend to people. Even better when I can find a bullet that is both good and affordable. The Rocks-Off Touch of Velvet ticks off both those boxes for me. Which really isn’t a huge surprise, Rocks-Off are the masterminds behind quite a multitude of various bullet designs (I almost want to say they specialize in bullet vibrators), including the Bamboo, which I really enjoyed.
If you are already familiar with the Rocks-Off line of RO-90mm bullet vibes then you are essentially already familiar with the Touch of Velvet. The main difference (at least as far as I can tell) from other RO-90mm bullets is merely cosmetic. The Touch of Velvet has a very touchably smooth, matte surface that does kind of suggest that what you are holding is like velvet. Color-wise it has a very gorgeous, almost metallic looking sheen in a very swanky dusty rose color (I think its official color name is “Rose Blush” and it is also available in “Aqua Lily” and “Soft Lily”… this toy has a very floral motif going on…which I’m kind of digging…). Size-wise the Touch of Velvet falls into (what I consider) a pretty standard bullet size (is there an official size range for bullet vibrators?), it is about 3.5 inches in total length and just a smidge over 2 inches in circumference. It is definitely a fits-in-the-palm-of-your-hand sort of toy (or in your back pocket, because you never know when you will suddenly need to bust out that bullet vibe). In theory, you could insert it (only vaginally, not anally) but I tend to only use my bullet vibes externally to stimulate nipples, clit, taint, maybe tease the area around my butt hole (also, don’t be afraid to use it on the balls and penis!)… but if you are perfectly welcome to insert it, you would get about 3ish inches of insertable length out of it.
Like many other Rocks-Off products the Touch of Velvet is battery powered and comes equipped with its own AAA battery so you can get down to business immediately (this is awesome, because honestly… who has spare batteries just lying around… witches and demons, thats who…). Upon arrival you will have to unscrew the cap at the base of the toy and remove the little bit of paper from the top of the battery. Once you have done that, just screw the cap back on and the Touch of Velvet is ready to rock and roll! This paper removal step crucial in making your Touch of Velvet work… in fact, if you have arrived here by googling something like “my Rocks-Off Touch of Velvet vibrator wont turn on” I’m going to go ahead and suggest making sure you have removed that little bit of paper. I can’t tell you the number of times I have panicked because I thought a vibrator arrived broken only to realize there is a little bit of paper in the battery chamber… also, because of the number of times this has happened to me, you would think I would have learned to check that first…
Operating the Touch of Velvet is pretty simple, as long as you know how to push a button you have got operating this vibe down pat (also the button is easy to locate and large enough to push easily). The Touch of Velvet has a one button control system, press and hold the button at the base of the toy to turn the vibe on. Continuing to press the button will cycle you through the vibrators 10 settings (three constant speed intensities and seven pattern modes) then when you are ready to switch the toy back off just press and hold that same button and the toy will power down. It literally could not be any easier… well… maybe it could… if I could like… control the vibrator with my thoughts… or with my clit… but, with our current vibrator button technology, it probably can’t be much simpler then it is now (although personally I really prefer a two button system, an up and down sort of thing where I can move forward or backwards instead of having to cycle through every freakin’ setting).
In use I have no real complaints about the Rocks-Off Touch of Velvet, it managed to do its job and accomplished orgasms with flying colors. The vibrations are adequately strong and do possess just enough light rumble (bordering on buzzy) to be satisfying (it’s no Doxy, but you can’t really expect that from a bullet vibe… although I’ll worship the ground it vibrates on when bullet vibe that finally does accomplish that…). The tapered tip allows for some pretty direct stimulation, I was able to press the nose of the vibrator down against the side of my clit and direction those vibrations exactly where I wanted them. It was a slower build orgasm (usually with vibrators I like the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am speeds found in wands like the Hitachi and Doxy) but sometimes it is nice to slow down, enjoy the journey, actually have time to formulate a sexy scenario in my head before reaching an orgasm (so often with my wands I get as far as thinking just a single thought like “penis” or “naked’ and BAM I’ve orgasmed… doesn’t leave me much time to imagine anything too elaborate). With partner sex the Touch of Velvet works quite well, it is very easy to slip it between myself and my partner without it being obtrusive (sadly, having penis in vagina sex with my partner on top does not work well with a Doxy wand between us… I’ve had some interesting stomach and pelvic bruises from this set up…) and is also fun to tease and tickle my partners penis and balls with (when he isn’t being vibrator shy… some vibrations he simply can not stand… the Touch of Velvet isn’t his favorite, but he doesn’t really object to it… much).
If you are on the hunt for a decent bullet vibrator that wont break the bank, I don’t think you can go wrong giving the Rocks-Off Touch of Velvet a try. If the matte metallic look or the colors aren’t quite your thing, take a look at any of the other RO-90mm vibrators available, they will essentially be the same toy with a different look. I think the Touch of Velvet would make a fantastic first bullet vibrator for anyone looking to try out vibration, it is powerful without being overwhelming, it’s strong… but not… “OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME” strong. Give it a go, I think you’ll like it.
