The latest sex toy delivery to my humble abode included not one but two toys! The fine folks at Good Vibrations have seen fit to spoil my vagina with a both the Pleasure Works Rippler Mini and the Pleasure Works Maven (review coming soon)!
So, up until now, my vagina and I have been in the honeymoon phase of sex toy reviewing. I was happy to cram any toy I could get my hands on into my obedient hole and think that it was amazing. But, the newness is wearing off, and now my vagina is a cranky old lady who doesn’t like when things aren’t exactly the way she wants them to be.
And so, the honeymoon ended with the Rippler Mini.
I’m not saying this is a bad toy though, its just not my toy.
My first complaint about the Rippler Mini is the size. Its small. I know what you’re thinking… “well duh, its mini.” I get that, but because of how short it is, I found it hard to play with. My greedy vagina wanted me to push it all the way in, and suddenly, I would find myself without anything to hold on to. The base is not as substantial as say, my Bad Dragon dildos, so there isn’t much for me to grab onto besides the shaft. So, I had to chose between thrusting at an unsatisfying depth, or fumbling to hold the toy while pushed it in deeper. Obviously, this isn’t a complete deal breaker between me and the toy, but it is an annoyance that I will curse every time I pick the toy up.
I kind of feel like the word “mini” is a little bit misleading (at least for me). When I hear the world mini, I think of something much smaller. Sure, the Rippler Mini is smaller then its grown up counterpart Rippler, but at 5 ½ inches, I imagine the Rippler Mini is actually quite reasonable for most people, as it does fall in the size range of the average human penis. So, you are the kind of person who doesn’t like a lot of length in your dildo or are looking for a toy with a more realistic size to it, this might be perfect for you.
Its also fairly reasonable on the girth end of things as well. It appears to be 1 5/8 inches at its widest point, so a very comfortable fit, it was very easy for my to slip this in without any work at all. My Rippler Mini works pretty well as a “warm-up” toy, if I’m planning on working up to something bigger while I’m masturbating, but it is not a “main event” toy for me.
But, its not all bad news on the size front, because it is short, it becomes the perfect anal toy for me. I do not enjoy a lot of length anally and the flared base makes it totally safe and appropriate for anal play. The texture may be hit or miss for some people, I really run hot and cold when it comes to textured anal toys, it all depends on my mood and how turned on I am. So, keep the heavily textured shaft in mind if you are looking at the Rippler Mini as an anal toy.
And speaking of its base, it is harness compatible! I am pretty excited about this feature, even though I don’t yet own a harness. Hopefully, it wont be too long before I own one and can report back about how well it works in a harness!
Now, something I love about the Rippler Mini, the texture! It is fantastic, it almost makes up for its size. Almost. As the name of this toy suggests, the texture is a sort of pronounced rippling pattern that covers the entire length of shaft. The Rippler Mini has a smaller head and gentle curving shaft that widens down towards the base of the toy. The curvature of the toy provided me with some adequate g-spot stimulation, but it was nothing earth shattering. It was a nice bonus, but it did not make me cum.
I also found the silicone to be very firm. Which is great for bringing out the texture of this toy, but didn’t seem quite as plush and supple as the firm silicone of my Bad Dragon toys. Still, it is not so firm as to be uncomfortable.
In true silicone fashion, it has picked up all the lint from my floor.
The Rippler Mini includes its own bullet vibrator. This vibrator is shit. Throw it away. It is buzzy, numbing, only has one setting and gets old very fast. Luckily, the hallowed out space in the Rippler Mini looks like it can accommodate other bullets with ease. Id like to try upgrading my Rippler Mini with a We-Vibe Tango, I fondle this bullet in stores any chance I get.
Also, a word of caution concerning the bullet vibe. Before you put the bullet inside the cavity, rub the inside of the hole with some lube! I’m not even joking, if you ever want to see that bullet again, slather it in lube! In my excitement, I pulled the Rippler Mini and the included bullet vibe from the box and instantly popped the little bullet inside. Big mistake. I could not get that sucker back out, it was seriously in there good and tight. It took my boyfriend, myself, and a pair of pliers at least 10 solid minutes before we were able to get the bullet back out. There is now some obvious damage to the outside of the bullet, (it still works, but its not pretty looking) and we dinged up the silicone around the base pretty bad. So, please, learn from my mistake! If you ever plan on changing the batteries on this vibe, using the vibe on your clit while you use the dildo, or want to change out the included vibe for other bullets… lube it up before you put it in and then remove it right after play so it doesn’t get wedged in there for all eternity!
And to further prove the dangers of the Rippler Mini’s bullet cavity, the same evening of the above catastrophe, I had the bright idea to stick my thumb inside of the hole. Don’t ask me why, I can’t explain everything I do. But I did it, and guess what… my thumb was stuck. I could feel the dildo devouring my hand, it was so stuck that I was rehearsing what I would say to the ER doctors as they cut the black dildo off my finger. Thankfully, my boyfriend saved the say with a little lube and some gentle pulling. (UPDATE: Andy, at GoodVibes.com shows me to proper way to release the bullet!)
So yeah, the bullet hole on the Rippler Mini means business, lube it up!
