Well, at this point Peepshow Toys is just spoiling me. If Peepshow Toys was a person, I think we would be going steady by now. I would be wearing Peepshow Toys class ring, we would share malts at the local burger joint and I’d sneak out of my bedroom after curfew to makeout with Peepshow Toys at Lover’s Lane in their brand new Chevy. Yep… that is the life I’d be having with Peepshow Toys if they were a person. Sadly, it’s a business… and the dating logistics are just too much, so I guess I’ll just have to be happy with the sex toys they send in exchange for reviews. But in my alternate reality… Peepshow Toys has just asked me to prom (I said yes).
And now everyone thinks I’m crazy. But, that’s okay, all the best people are. So, just what on earth did they send me that caused me to profess my love in such a creepy fashion? The CalExotics Marvelous Eggciter. If you have been following my blog for awhile you will know how I feel about tiny, adorable toys, I can’t get enough of them! And the Marvelous Eggciter is about as small and as cute as they can possibly come! Even I didn’t expect this toy to be so itty-bitty when I agreed to review this mini external vibrator!
Now, with how small the Eggciter is, the packaging seems like a bit of overkill. The box seems HUGE in comparison to the tiny vibe inside, I ended up tearing the foam out thinking there must be a reason for the large box, figured there must be a storage bag or other extra goodies hidden inside! Sadly, nope. It is just the little vibe and it’s USB charging cable. However, the box is sturdy enough to keep around and continue to use as storage… assuming you don’t mind keeping around such a funky and vivid box. The moment I laid eyes on the packaging I instantly thought of the artwork by Roy Fox Lichtenstein, the art on the box is very reminiscent of American Pop Art. It is bold, bright, and unique! Sure, the box isn’t exactly discreet if you are keeping it around, but it is super fun!
The CalExotics Marvelous Eggciter is a small (I really want to say micro, but it’s probably not THAT small) egg-shaped external vibe that features a split tip with a groove between either peak. Egg-shaped is actually a perfect description of size, I held my Eggciter up next to a real chicken egg in my refrigerator and it was nearly the exact same size.
Operating the Marvelous Eggciter is pretty simple once you sort out which button does what. On the body of the egg there are two raised buttons, neither of which are labeled… so it’s just a push things until you figure out what’s happening sort of deal. Or, if you are reading this review… you’ll already have a heads up and will look super smart when you operate your own Eggciter! The top button (button closest to the tip of the egg) is the on/off button. To power the toy up just hold down that top button for a few seconds until the Eggciter buzzes into action, conversely when you are finished with the egg hold down the same button to power the toy off. With me so far? Good. Now, pressing the bottom button (button closest to the round end of the egg) will cycle you through the Marvelous Eggciter’s three intensities and seven patterns. I am not particularly fond of patterns on most vibrators, but these aren’t all that bad… the pulsating is strung close enough together and at a high enough intensity that I don’t get too frustrated while using them. However I am not a big fan of having to cycle through settings over and over to get to the one I want, even worse if I like bouncing back and forth between two settings that are doing it for me but they are several other settings apart… I dream of a world where every toy has an up and down button for easier cycling. But, logistically I know there really isn’t much room for a third button on the mini EggCiter… but that doesn’t stop me from wanting it though!
To me, the vibrations don’t exactly feel rumbly (at least as I’ve come to know rumbly) but they aren’t exactly what I would call buzzy either. The Eggciter seems to fall into some kind of pleasant middle ground… somewhere between truly rumbly and annoyingly buzzy, which I don’t hate… although it doesn’t give me any real “holy cow” moments. It’s kind of a safe, mid-level vibe that I know will bring to to an orgasm, but it isn’t a roller coaster ride of pleasure… more of a … merry-go-round of pleasure. It might not be thrilling, but its a safe choice and odds are you will probably enjoy yourself.
In use I found that there were a couple of great ways to position the Eggciter over my clit. The most obvious was to nestle my clit right in the center of the groove, in between the two points and let it work like a rabbit vibe. What I ended up preferring the most was to use one edge of the toy to apply direct pressure to my clit, that ended up being the real winner for me. Then when that became too much and I needed to tone things down I could just late the toy down flat against my clit and take a breather without totally calling it quits. The silicone has a very matte texture to it which gives the toy quite a bit of drag, I found that if I added a bit of water-based lube to the toy I was able to glide it around and massage and tease my clit and the surrounding landscape with much more ease.
The CalExotics Marvelous Eggciter is rechargeable and it is quite possible you have found this review while googling “how to charge the Eggciter” because it is not painfully obvious where to plug the cable in at. So, at the very bottom of the Eggciter is a tiny little hole, at first glance it kind of just looks like a possible defect in the silicone, but it’s not. Just push the end of the charger into that hole and plug the other end into your computer or a USB compatible wall charger (I use my iPhone’s wall cube). My Eggciter arrived with some charge, which is great because I have very little patience when it comes to testing a new toy. Much like Veruca Salt, “I want it now!” When it does come time to charge up the Eggciter it takes about two and a half hours to charge to full from a completely dead toy. Once charged the Eggciter should last roughly 40 minutes if used only on it’s highest speed, if you prefer the lower end intensities you should be able to eke out several hours of play time.
Having tweeted out that I was writing this review, I did receive one question about it that I will try to answer here, since I’m sure others will look at this little egg shaped toy and wonder the same thing.. “Will it work as a vibrating love egg?” To which I say… maybe? I mean, it would be possible to turn it on and insert it, but it has no string for an easy retrieval. So, I guess its really up to you. I see no reason why you couldn’t, but I also haven’t tried. I would be interested in hearing from someone who has tried it though.
The one downside to the CalExotics Marvelous Eggciter is the noise level. For something so small it is surprisingly loud. Even buried under the covers of my bed my Stunt Cock was still able to hear that little silicone beast buzzing along and accused me of masturbating without him. So, even though it it fits easily into the palm of my hand, the Eggciter does not get top marks for discretion. Will it be heard in the next room? No, probably not (unless you have particularly thin walls or vents that carry sound well) but if you are in close quarters wth someone (a dorm room, hotel room, etc) it might raise some questions with your roomies.
Overall, I think that the CalExotics Marvelous Eggciter is a nice little vibrator and can be had for under $50.00, which makes it a reasonably affordable toy. If you are in need of a small vibe for travel the Marvelous Eggciter is a decent choice. Not only is it small and easy to pack, but because of how long the power button must be held down in order to bring it to life it seems very unlikely that this little vibe would accidentally turn itself on in your bag. It is also waterproof and safe for shower play which is fun. If you need a lot of power to orgasm, you may want to skip the Eggciter although even though I normally reach for the Doxy Wand I found plenty of satisfaction with the Eggciter. Really, my only issue with the Eggciter is the noise level, if that isn’t an issue for you, this is a nice toy and I see no reason not to recommend it.
