Blush Novelties Avant Pride P1 – Sex Toy Review

I’ve got yet another toy from the Avant line of toys! This time I’m coming at you with the Blush Novelties Avant Pride P1! It must be the gray and dreary weather here in Northern Minnesota, I am just craving huge doses of bright colors! And honestly, can it get any brighter and more fun than a flippin’ rainbow?! No, I don’t think it can… unless maybe if they added glitter…

Once again, Peepshow Toys is responsible for putting another fantastically colorful Avant dildo into my hands. The Pride P1 is another sample they sent me to show off at Twin Cities Pride earlier this summer. And show it off I did! To anyone who would listen to me! “DO YOU WANT TO SEE MY DILDO!?” “I’VE GOT A REALLY COOL DILDO!” “I’LL LET YOU TOUCH IT! IT’S SO SOFT!” In any other possible social situation this might be seen as inappropriate… but at the TC Pride festival… it was the least weird thing that could have possibly happened… and people were SUPER excited to see my dildos… even one statewide candidate for political office was thrilled about seeing my rainbow colored toy (and they ended up winning… so I’m not saying the Blush Novelties Avant Pride P1 dildo is magic and will win your election to political office… but I’m also not not saying that…)!

The Blush Novelties Pride P1 Freedom is probably the most recognizable coloring of the Avant Pride collection. The bright rainbow colors of the toy is an obvious nod to the Rainbow flag (or it could be paying homage to Nyan Cat… but I’m really leaning towards it being the Pride Rainbow flag). Obvious dildo is obvious. I have seen a number of rainbow dildos released recently (and by recently I mean within the last few years, because as a blogger… I sit in front of a computer all day and night in a windowless room and have no concept of time… just kidding, I have windows… but I keep the shades drawn, because I am a darkness dwelling troll…) and the Avant P1 right now is by far my favorite piece of rainbow eye candy… (full disclosure… it’s also the only rainbow dildo I own), because not only is the color fantastic, but that shape is really quite pleasing to the eye.

When scoping out the Avant Pride collection for the first time, I was the most excited about the P1 and its intriguing shape. I felt like with a body shape like that the P1 dildo was either going to be a total winner or a complete flop. And frankly, I am still kind of on the fence about which it is… I’ve tested it many times now and I either love it or I hurl it across the room in disgust. There is no middle ground for me and this toy. We have developed a very complicated relationship. And I think it all comes down to its shape and rather small size. The Avant Pride P1 is a fairly little thing, I was actually pretty surprised when I pulled it from its box, for some reason I was expecting something far more substantial… I suppose this is due to the other toys I’ve reviewed in the Avant line being much more substantial… I guess I just started assuming everything in the Avant line was going to be either girthy or long. The P1 has a total length of 6 inches with 5.25 inches of insertable length and has a diameter of 1.4 inches at its widest point. It’s a petit little toy! For me personally, it’s just too small to do me a whole lot of good. But, it is a size that most users should find relatively easy to insert vaginally. The flared base does make it perfectly acceptable for anal use and I believe this would make a great toy for any level of butt enthusiasts. The base also makes this toy harness compatible, its actually pretty versatile toy ready for just about anything – be it anal, vaginal, harness, solo, your plus one to your second cousins wedding, WHATEVER!

Okay, but then why such a complicated relationship you ask? Well, those short of it is because it doesn’t do exactly what I want it to do! Just looking at the shape of this toy, I thought for sure it was going to be a slam dunk in the g-spot orgasm hoop. But, apparently looks can be deceiving… because the P1 gave me nothing but … uh… whatever another sports metaphor is for just utter disappointment. How about this, the Blush Avant Pride P1 totally 2008 Detroit Lions’ed me… does that work? Because you know… they sucked.. failing to win a single game… going 0-16… you get the idea right? Anyways…

When I first unboxed the P1, I immediately spread my legs and pushed it on in, ready for some g-spot gratification… I mean, just look at the shape of that bulbous little head… that beautifully curved shaft… this toy just looks like it was made for searching out the g-spot! And it did find my g-spot, that certainly wasn’t the issue… the shape of the toy did work out perfectly for hitting my g-spot… but the neck is just so thin and the silicone is just so squishy… I couldn’t get the kind of pressure I wanted against my g-spot. When I tried to thrust hard or press the toy deep into my g-spot it just felt like the silicone was bending away from me. This probably wont be an issue if you don’t require deep, hard pressure against your g-spot… but man, I was very frustrated by the whole ordeal. If I stopped trying to use the P1 to hit my g-spot in a meaningful way, then I enjoyed the it a lot more… it is a nice toy, it feels good to insert, its not huge… so if all I wanted was a toy that was soft and comfy to insert and maybe do a little bit of thrusting with while I enjoyed a vibrator against my clit, this isn’t bad… I really feel like I want to call this a slow and gentle toy. The bump near the bottom of the shaft also confuses me a bit… I mean… I do like what it does for the over all look of the toy, but in use… I found no reason for it to be there. I kind of wish that bump were a little higher up, something I could feel going in. I mean, I guess I do kind of feel it, but its just so low that once I get to it… there isn’t really anywhere for it to go… I would have rather it be up higher were I would feel it go in and then have a bit more shaft following behind it… but whatever.

Okay, so the Avant Pride P1 was not a winner for me, but all is not lost for our little rainbow buddy! My Stunt Cock agreed to give the P1 a try to see if it faired any better at prostate stimulation. According to Stunt Cock the P1 was “fucking awesome, and I don’t even like butt stuff that much!” I can definitely see the smaller size being a great for anal although because of the soft, floppy shaft, it took a little bit of extra effort to insert it anally… but it wasn’t really that big of a deal (Stunt Cock seemed to roll with it without complaints).  For him, the Pride P1 hit his p-spot and sent him into booty heaven… so I’m super happy at least one of us found a good use for this toy! I haven’t tried it anally yet, I just haven’t been feeling butt stuff this month… but I feel like I would probably like it much better anally, the size seems more suited for it.

Something I am pretty impressed with is the Pride P1’s suction cup base! It really does a fantastic job at sticking to most flat surfaces, it clung tight to my desk, my hardwood floor, the wall of my shower, and my beds headboard! This adds to the versatility of the toy that I touched on earlier… imagine all the fun you can have riding this toy… backing up into this toy… using it to decorate your other wise boring walls… such fun!

So, I love what Blush Novelties has done with their Avant line. The colors are all beautiful, the Avant Pride line is really amazing, the soft matte silicone is to die for… so as far as the quality of the product goes, I can not recommend it enough. Personally, I like a dildo with enough girth to clench around and really feel full. I also like a firmer dildo when it comes to g-spot stuff, in order to achieve a g-spot orgasm I really feel like I need to get in there and put hard pressure against it, which is something that is harder to do with a softer silicone. I think I honestly love this toy… for someone else. Someone who likes a gentler toy, something with a really delicious bit of squish to it, something that is slim and not at all girthy, something that is good for slower thrusting. That person is not me… so as much as I love the look of this toy, it’s not my toy (although I do love having it as part of my toy collection, because it is pretty cool looking). Also, you really can’t beat the price, you can get an awesome, body-safe silicone toy in this amazing rainbow color for about $30, whats not to love about that? So my recommendation is that if you are a person who enjoys their toys the way I enjoy mine… avoid this one, it probably won’t satisfy you.
