I’ve really started a love affair with Blush Novelties recently, their dildos have been really killin’ it, especially the Avant line. Earlier this year I reviewed the Avant D4 and fell in love almost instantly… the the Avant dildos have colors that are so fun and playful, the silicone material is so soft and silky, and the body shapes are interesting and pretty non-realistic (although still has a similar penis-esque build”).
Being a native Minnesotan and Minneapolis born and bred the Avant D2 really speaks to me with its “Purple Rain” coloring. It has been my intention ever since it arrived to take the Avant D2 to First Avenue to photograph this toy in front of Prince’s (now) gold star… but I haven’t made it that way with dildo in tow yet (or when I have, it was way too crowded… “excuse me everyone… if you could all please just step out of line for a moment, I would like to get a picture of my dildo by the wall”). Eventually though… it’ll happen. It’s on my dildo bucket list. The Purple Rain coloring is a series of purple bands in varying sizes and shades of purple ranging from a deep purple to a more lighter, more lilac purple.
Purple rain, purple rain, I only wanted to see you bathing in purple rain…
And now that song will be stuck in my head for at least the next 24 hours… oh well, could be worse… It could be named after a Nickleback song or worse… Baby Shark…

The Avant D2 silicone is completely silky smooth and void of any texture. I’m kind of on the fence about the no texture bit, normally I prefer a dildo that I can really feel… I want to experience bumps and ripples as I push a toy in and slowly drag it out, but the Avant D2’s shaft is completely smooth… which I suppose is great for those of you who are the complete opposite of me on the texture spectrum. But, at the same time, the body shape of the D2 is just interesting enough that I think I am able to forgive it for its lack of texture. While the Avant D4 reminded me a lot of the silhouette of a pregnant person, the D2’s body is giving me sneaky mongoose vibes. I have absolutely no way of justifying why I think that…just know that I do. I think it’s because the head of the toy kind of looks like a sleek and sneaky snoot ready for booping while its gently curving shaft looks like a little sneaky mongoose wiggling its sneaky little butt ready to pounce (I also have absolutely no idea how mongooses work… I imagine them as snake-cats). I am really good at sex toy reviews, can’t you tell?
The Blush Novelties Avant D2 is a whopping 7.5 inches in length with a grand 6 inches of that being insertable, the D2 also has a diameter of 1.5 inches which is a pretty a pretty standard dildo girth… for me it is suitably filling without being overly stretching. The shaft of the D2 also has a sort of… flatness to it… especially in the toys head… which is what makes it look like the sneaky snoot ready for a boop… it kind of comes to a rounded point like a nose.
Even though the body of the D2 is curved, its not quite aggressive enough of a curve for me to get any major g-spotting action out of it, it is also a downward curve rather than an upwards sweeping one, but it is just enough for the broad, flat head to make a valiant effort at massaging my g-spot. I don’t hate it… it feels nice but I’m not having any earth shattering g-spot orgasms with it. But I have read other bloggers having great success with this as a g-spot toy… so it may still work well for you.
Something I wasn’t too keen on is the fact that the big flat head kept wanting to angle itself off to the side. I don’t know what it was… but it just really wanted to roll to the side, which meant I couldn’t take my hand off it if I wanted it to stay in the most comfortable position… I had to really watch it like a hawk… which made slipping it in to just clench around it, driving the broad head into my g-spot while I used an external vibrator a really complicated affair. This is probably a really minor issue and maybe its just a personal issue… but man did it annoy the ever lovin’ shit outta me. I did not have this problem when using the suction cup though… it was perfect for sticking to the floor and riding. And that brings me to my next point…

I love the base of this dildo. I love it for three reasons. Reason number one, the flared base makes the Avant D2 anal safe which is great, because you are going to want to use this toy in your butt. Trust me on this one, it is a fabulous butt toy. At first I didn’t think it would be, I thought the flatness to it would make it hard to insert, but with a good squirt of lube and it popped right in! And once it was in… oooh I loved the feel of that pronounced ridge… it was perfect. Reason number two I dig the Avant D2’s base is that it is harness compatible! Its always nice to have a great less realistic dildo options for harnesses. And the third and final reason I love the Avant D2 base is that it is a mighty fine suction cup! Suction cups are such a minor detail of most toys…but when you find a great one… you can’t help but wonder why every dildo doesn’t have one! I love sticking the D2 to the floor and bouncing up and down on it or sticking it onto the wall of my bathroom (the only non-textured wall in my house… so the only place it sticks) and backing up into it… so much fun!
So, the Blush Novelties Avant D2 is my second toy in the colorful Avant line (but certainly not my last… I have many more coming up in the review queue soon) and so far its my second favorite. If given the choice to only use the D2 or the D4 I would definitely go with the girthier D4. I find the D4 so much more satisfying… the D2 is nice but the D4 is fantastic. But if you are looking for a dildo that isn’t going to overwhelm you, the Avant D2 might be just what you are looking for. The suction cup is amazing, the curve is visually appealing, but wasn’t enough for me to get the kind of g-spot action I was looking for, and the flat bulbous head is kind of fun and I wish I could get it to really dig into my g-spot more. The color is impeccable… I am 100% in love with the Purple Rain (both because I love Prince and because purple is so on brand for me…).
