Alright, this review has taken me much longer to write then I had wanted. I think the DIY nature of the whole thing was a bit intimidating (even though it shouldn’t be), I am chronically lazy… much like a cat who has found themselves a warm and sunny spot, I’ll only move for food (and occasionally to run maniacally around the house for absolutely no reason at all).
Don’t get me wrong though, this lack of motivation does not at all equate to my disinterest in the toy, far from! When Luvoqa offered to send me the Dodil for review I squeed. I squeed so hard and so loud I’m pretty sure my neighbors wondered what that crazy lady with all the package deliveries was up to now. I was incredibly excited by the whole Dodil thing, and I’m sure you’ll see why as you keep reading (TLDR: because it’s awesome)…
So, I have had my eye on a Dodil since I first stumbled across one on Twitter. I was utterly captivated by this long green turd (yes… I thought it looked like a turd… but like… a fun turd…) that could be shaped by the mere whim of it’s user (well, equal parts whim and hot water). But just what is a Dodil I can hear you asking? Well, if you rearrange the letters in dildo, taking the the ‘do’ and rejiggering it until it’s up in front of the ‘dil’ you get Dodil, a dildo you can reshape to your liking! Pretty clever, eh? The Dodil is a moldable, shapeable, dildo that can be squeezed and scrunched and bent into all sorts of shapes… when you bring home a Dodil, you don’t just bring home one toy… it can be so many dildos in one! Talk about getting more bang for your buck!
The whole concept is awesome, it reminds me of the Mystery Vibe Crescendo… only executed way better (granted, the Dodil doesn’t vibrate, so it doesn’t have to contend with those issues). A sex toy… more specifically a dildo… that you can heat up and shape until you have created your perfect dildo… or at least near perfect dildo, I couldn’t quite get the Dodil to hold exactly all the shapes I wanted. The inner portion of the Dodil is made from a non-toxic thermoplastic while the outer portion (what comes in contact with your skin) is made from a silicone. The silicone does seem to have a lot of drag to you
The Dodil arrives in an adorable metal thermos like canister (which sadly can not be used for soup… I looked into it already) that pulls double duty as both a way to store the Dodil as well as the vessel in which to soften the Dodil. It is rather discreet, other than reading “Dodil” on the canister (which is pretty innocuous unless you already know what it is), it could pass as any other thermos in your cupboard. Opening up the canister you’ll find the Dodil itself as well as a bit of plastic wire (used in shaping the Dodil) and the instruction booklet (I know I’m usually Miss Flies-By-The-Seat-Of-Her-Pants but I really recommend reading the included instructions, it has a lot of useful information that I probably won’t cover in this review).
Brand new, out of the canister, the Dodil looks just like a long green turd in a can. Now, of course you could just call it good and go on using it like that (long and smooth)… but I’m betting you are going to want to add a little more oomph and pizazz to your toy, so you are going to need to heat that puppy up. In order to shape the Dodil you take the handy-dandy thermos/storage container the Dodil arrived in and pour in some boiling water along with the toy (with the plastic button end facing up). Place the lid of the thermos back on (loosely) and set a timer for about a half an hour. Use this time to make yourself a quesadilla, watch an episode of the Good Place (I’m totally into this show right now), or if you are one of those people, get some exercise. Be somewhat cautious when removing the Dodil from the canister, it has the potential to still be quite hot… lucky for me, I have been training for this moment all my life by pulling burning hot bagels out of the toaster with my bare hands. Once the Dodil has been heated up, it reminds me a lot of the modeling clay we used to play with in elementary school (so I have also been training for Dodil shaping all my life and I didn’t even realize it). Now, the fun part… decide on what shape you want to give the Dodil… I am terrible at decision making and I ended up with an lumpy hot mess… but even though it wasn’t the most beautiful dildo I’ve ever used… it felt AWESOME (maybe part of that is because my vagina knew we had crafted this toy with our own two hands and it was proud of us). The Dodil arrives with a length of wire that can be wrapped around the heated Dodil to help create all the lumps, bumps and contours of your dreams. Once you have settled on a shape for the Dodil you get to engage in even more waiting… now you get to wait for the Dodil to cool down… so make a second quesadilla, watch more tv, etc… or, if you are an incredibly impatient person like me… you pop your Dodil in the fridge. Now… the instructions don’t say whether or not using the fridge cheater-cheater-pumpkin-eater method is safe for the Dodil or not… so, unless you are a reckless demon like myself, you might just want to wait it out naturally and let it cool at room temp. My Dodil didn’t seem to suffer any ill effects from being rapidly cooled in the refrigerator… but who knows what would happen after prolonged used like this. Following the instructions is going to be the safest way to go to avoid any possible damage to you Dodil.
If you find that you have your Dodil nearly perfect, but just need to make some minor adjustments, you can pop it back into the canister with more hot water and let it sit until it is just flexible enough for it to be reworked. If you are bored of the creation you have crafted and want to go back to the drawing board and start over just toss it back in for the full thirty minutes and it will straighten itself back out into it’s green turd shape and you can sort out what you want to do from there. It’s a relatively easy process, just very time consuming (much like the Krubera… that involved cooking gelatin before use… geez).
I do have one complaint about the Dodil, the plastic string that is included to help shape and mold the Dodil is incredibly frustrating to work with. It is very slippery and comes loose and falls away very easily. I ended up using a soft hair tie on a couple of occasions just to get the shape I was after… much like the refrigerator… it’s not mentioned as a safe practice for the Dodil… so proceed with caution, I don’t want you to do what I do and ruin your Dodil!
It’s hard for me to give you an in-depth review of what the Dodil is like in use, as everyones creation is going to be somewhat unique. Dildos are usually hit or miss with me, I am definitely more of a vibrator girl, but I really enjoyed the Dodil (that sense of pride I mentioned earlier?) and I think a lot of it is because I was able to really tailor the shape of the Dodil to suit my personal preferences. I can get the angles that I enjoy, I can make bumps exactly where I need them, it can be smooth where I want it to be smooth… it’s really pretty awesome. What I really enjoyed doing with the Dodil was creating a shape that felt really good to clench around then use a vibrator on my clit… now THAT is a great way to orgasm! I have only used the Dodil (thus far) vaginally, so if you decide to use the Dodil anally be sure you have created an angle of at least 90 degrees in order to make it a booty safe toy!
I highly recommend the Dodil, it turned out to be a lot of fun! Even though I am chronically lazy and it took me an embarrassingly long time to get around to using and reviewing it, I don’t regret a single second I spent playing around with it! It is an experience that very few toys on the market can give you! I really hope that Dodil comes out with more products in the future, I love the whole idea of customizable sex toys. How about a butt plug where I can mold and shape the plug part?! I would be so into that…
Have I convinced you just how awesome the Dodil is? Are you waiting for me to just shut up and give you the link where to find your own? Well, here it is then! Find yourself a sweet Dodil from the even sweeter people at Luvoqa!
The Dodil was provided to me free of charge by Luvoqua in exchange for my honest review.
